Key Considerations

  • Working effectively with LandCorp, service authorities, local community and other Stakeholders.
  • Management of the project consultant team to drive project efficiencies related to both time and cost.
  • Management of the early contractor involvement and tendering process to reduce overall project budgets.
  • Management of a complex contract administration phase which included both descriptive and non-descriptive components.

Project Challenges

Tight Timeframes

Due to political commitments, the timeframe to deliver the Town Square works was extremely tight, JDSi ensured that the target dates were met by being proactive and taking the lead role in the delivery of the works. Other implemented measures included early procurement of long-lead items and close management of scope to ensure the facility was opened on time.

Budget Constraints

Initial tendering resulted in costs exceeding budget in excess of 30%. With project continuation in serious jeopardy, JDSi assisted LandCorp in negotiations and cost control measures, working closely with the contractor to achieve a cost that matched budget. As a result, the project recommenced on budget with only minor revisions to quality of scope.

Superintendence and Management Role

JDSi acted as the Superintendent for this complicated and multifaceted development project and managed all disciplines required to deliver the construction of the Town Square. The project team included consultants for civil, landscaping, electrical, communications, structural, security and architectural.

BHPIOSA (Power Authority)

The Newman Town Square electrical supply is serviced by BHPIOSA. JDSi ensured that all expectations from BHPIOSA were met and exceeded. To accomplish this, JDSi undertook regular communications with BHPIOSA Electrical officers.

Managing the Challenges

During construction of the works, all services were maintained to existing business properties and there were no safety incidents.
